Celebrating the life of

James Edward (Eddie) Carter Jr.

April 19, 1962 - August 25, 2026

James Edward (Eddie) Carter Jr.

James Edward “Eddie” Carter Jr., 64, passed away peacefully August 25, 2026. Born in Statesboro, Ga, Eddie grew up in Savannah, where he spent his life building a family, career and more than a few projects that were probably almost finished.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward “Ed” Carter Sr. and Elinor Ludlam Carter.

He was survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Hammesfahr Carter; his daughters, Jessica Ezelle (Daryl) and Katelyn Carter; his granddaughter Emerson; and his brother Eric Carter.

Eddie worked as a process controls engineer, a career that suited his natural curiosity and his ability to figure out how things worked.

He loved spending time in his garage, working on projects, admiring sports cars, and especially his Mazda Miata. He loved that Miata dearly. He just didn’t love it enough to finish fixing it.

More than anything Eddie loved his girls. He may not have always remembered when it was his turn to pick them up from school, but there was never any question about how much he loved his daughters. His timing may have occasionally been questionable; his heart never was.

And then came Emerson, his granddaughter, who had a way of making Eddie’s heart- and wallet- especially generous. He loved spoiling her and making memories with her.

Eddie will be remembered for his generous heart and his willingness to lend a hand whenever someone needed it. Whether it was a friend, a neighbor, or a family member, he was the kind of person who was always willing to help, figure something out or simply show up. His curiosity, sense of humor, love of tinkering, and appreciation for a good sports car were all part of what made him Eddie, but above all, he will be remembered for the generosity he showed to the people he loved.
